Rockie goes to Botswana

April 11, 2010 I arrive in Botswana, Africa to start my 27 month long journey.

I'd like to say that I'm prepared, that I know what I'm going to be doing and most of all, that I'm going to be helping people.

I know none of this.

The truth is that I'm scared out of my skull, I have absolutely no clue what the next two years are going to be like, and I will probably have no way of relating to any of these people let alone help to better their lives.

Nonetheless, there's something appealing to me about giving oneself entirely to a cause. Leaving everything... all familiarity, comforts, family and friends to simply, well, help. In what capacity? I'm not quite sure, but I'm going to hit the African ground running.
